Although Uwe had a long time to leave the big cinema, the games on the games still wear the stigma of the damned genre, and most of the projects are sentenced to failure in advance. But, meanwhile, the situation improves from year to year, albeit turtle steps. Moreover, for the first time in many years, we can get a whole ten good, or relatively good adaptations with almost no cunning. There are still no masterpieces among them, but you will not have to burn with shame and anger during viewing.
10th place – Sonic in the cinema (2020)
Let's start with the most paradoxical film. "Sonic" It was originally doomed to failure, because people who know and love the character cannot draw, and then also approve the dystrophic, toothy monster that was shown in the first trailer. They laughed at him with the whole Internet, as well as laughed at the squalor "Cats". As a result, the latter turned out to be the largest movie camera, and “Sonic”-a symbol of how fanan howl on the network can influence something. The character was redrawn, spending six months and millions of dollars. Well, we saw on the screen not an anthropomorphic monster, but a blue hedgehog familiar from childhood, a dozen references and still magnificent Jim Kerry in the role of robes O Helce.
Although, in terms of the quality of the script "Sonic" barely reaches the middle peasant. This is a clicked children's film from the end of the nineties or the beginning of zero. The characters perfectly fit into the framework of archetypes, and attempts to manipulate the viewer’s emotions are so obvious that not every ten -year -old will be on them. Nevertheless, the "Sonic" leaves albeit a short, but pleasant aftertaste. If you are tormented by nostalgia for simple comedies for a young audience, this picture is able to brighten up the evening.
9th place – Persia Prince: Sands of Time (2010)
Ten years ago, the Disney Empire was the first and so far for the last time took up the adaptation of the video game. He became experimental "Prince of Persia" , The rights to which Jerry Brookhaimer bought after the release of a successful The Sands of Time 2003. The producer offered Disney one more "Pirates of the Caribbean" , But this time in the scenery "1001 nights", and the movie bosses did not object. Moreover, they even attracted the script of the creator of the player's “sandy sands” by Jordan Mechner so that gamers do not blame filmmakers of complete misunderstanding of the material.
However, despite all the intentions, the adaptation was far from the original. In fact, all that remains of the game in the film is a magic dagger that can turn the time back, parkour and the appearance of the prince. Although, of course, today the film would be torn to pieces for Vaytrywing, because someone is, and Jake Jillenhale is hardly similar to the Persian. But in 2010, they did not pay attention to Royal Oak Casino this and criticized the “sand sands” for completely different. For example, for a leaky script, too childish humor and the reduction of a rich fantasy component to the only magic macguffin. And the one for the film is used only a couple of times.
However, with all the jambs, the Prince of Persia is not devoid of charm. This is a typical Disney blockbuster for the patterns of the “Pirates of the Caribbean”, and he relies on the same elements – a charismatic hero, a colorful setting and a spectacular action. All this works with varying success and does not reach the original trilogy about Captain Jack Vorobya, but against the backdrop of the fourth and fifth units, as well as the vast majority of game film adaptations “Sands of Time” are kept with dignity.
8th place – Pokemon. Detective Pikachu (2019)
By "Detective Pikachu" It is very convenient to measure how much time Hollywood needs to dispose of some sensational phenomenon. In the summer of 2016, the world swept hysteria Pokemon Go , And in less than three years, a blockbuster was ready about pocket monsters that passed … amazingly quiet. It would seem that Pokemon is a phenomenon of a planetary scale, and the first Hollywood film about them should shoot no worse "Avengers". But no – “Pikachu” simply gathered a good box office and sunk into oblivion.
But this is even fair, because the picture turned out to be good, but certainly not outstanding. The main thing is for what it is worth praising, this is for loyalty to the primary source. Unlike the Sonic team, the creators immediately thought of leaving all Pokemon of the canonical cartoon design. And the world of the franchise was transferred to the screen rather carefully. The result was spectacular and in places even mental plagiarism "Who set up Roger's Rabbit". Only if the painting by Robert Zemeckis was a technological breakthrough, and her jokes and images survived for more than one decade, then “Detective Pikachu” is just a good family movie, which everyone forgot about a year later.
7th place – the monastery of evil (2002)
The last parts "Evil of Evil" – Torture for every fan Resident Evil , And indeed any viewer who has at least some kind of taste. This is nothing more than a set of weakly interconnected, and often also badly set action scenes, in which, as if for the sake of mockery, they threw acquaintances of monsters and statists with the names of game characters. But this does not at all abolition that everything began relatively good.
The first “abode of evil” is a completely competent, albeit stupid horror-beer. James Cameron himself called him his favorite shameful pleasure. Which is not surprising, because the director of the floor is. WITH. Anderson dragged almost everything from "Aliens". Let's go according to the list: the base on which all the staff died is – there is. A military detachment with a cool Latin American in the composition – there is. The main character who has nailed to them is. Evil corporation that the source of all troubles wants to get. Creatures that take in number – there is. Big final boss – there is also. Fortunately, these elements are perfectly fit on the Resident Evil, which in essence has always been pure b-movie.
It is only upset that Anderson resolutely refused to connect the plot with the original source, and everything that reminds of the original game is a short episode in the mansion, and the Ambrell's logo flickers here and there. But the references, about and without, are enough in sequels, but it would be better if they were not at all. And references and sequels.
6th place – Legends Mortal Kombat: The revenge of Scorpio (2020)
Franchise Mortal Kombat Trying three times they tried to turn into a cartoon. At first, a ugly something with a subtitle came out on the video "The journey begins". Then the animated series appeared "Defenders of the Empire" – Not very successful tracing paper with "X -Men" , and even bloodless and designed for young spectators. And only recent "Revenge of Scorpio" I introduced Mortal Kombat in the form in which he conceived – brutal, pathos and bloody to absurd. Fatalii in the cartoon turned out to be so savory and generous with anatomical details, as if playing developers of the last parts of the playing. Well, the plot … He is, and even for once reveals the backstory of Scorpio, however, only to the top, and in fact, “Legends of Mortal Kombat” turned out to be an animated remake of the 1995 film, not at all obligatory, but at the same time good. Fans "Deadly Battle" you should not skip it for sure.

5th place – the monastery of evil: degeneration (2008)
As already mentioned, the sequels of the "monastery of evil" were not at all merciful to the fans of Resident Evil. If "Apocalypse" I also tried to put pressure on gaming nostalgia and threw it on the screen of a non -nemesis, then Jill Valentine, then in the third part, the creators finally scored fidelity to the game canons. But at the same time, someone in Sony proposed to make alternative film adaptation. Or rather, not even a film adaptation, but a kind of plot addition to the franchise Capcom , but in another format – animation.
"Degeneration" talks about the long-awaited reunification of Claire Radfield and Leon Kennedy a few years after the disaster in Raccun City. This meeting occurs, according to tradition, not under the best circumstances – the aircraft filled with a zombie crashes into the airport. Well, then there is a familiar story about secret experiments, a conspiracy of corporations and biocrastroist. The Kennedy agent, correcting the bangs, shoots the living dead and throws steep phrases through his teeth, and Claire is trying to save everyone with varying success. In general, before last year’s remark, it was the best reminder of Resident Evil 2.
The “degeneration” received two sequels, the quality of the animation in which was invariably growing, but the plot became an increasingly formal bunch between the scenes of the action. The first part, as in the case of a "live" film adaptation, remains the best.
4th place – Warcraft (2016)
In the 2010s, the genre of sword and magic on the big screen is almost exhausted. For all classical fantasy, only one "Hobbit" , and then with varying success. But shortly after the adventures of Bilbo Begins ended, the cinema with the grace of the cave troll burst into cinemas "Warcraft" – Bright, noisy, simple to primitive and at the same time overloaded with game mythology.
Director Duncan Jones tried to stay on the thin line between the film for fans and the blockbuster for a wide audience. It did not work out – the "Warcraft" is clearly inclined to the first category. The ordinary viewer all this shakespeare with the orcs is more tired of the orcs than the fascinates. Although its own magic in the picture is definitely. Jones managed to create the illusion that behind the borders of the frame there really is a huge fairy -tale world, which is hardly inferior in scale to Middle -earth or Westeros. True, we saw him only briefly. “Warcraft” suffers from the adversity of many ambitious works, not necessarily films – this is not a self -sufficient story, but only an entry. The figures were placed on the board, and all the most spectacular and dramatic stored for the continuation, which we, apparently, will never receive.
3rd place – Lara CROFT: Tomb of Tombs (2001)
There are many examples of allegedly perfect casting in the history of cinema, but there are much fewer cases of synergy between the character and the actor that plays him. Often one completely overshadows the other. Today, no one recalls that Tony Stark in the comics was not at all a widow-baluster, which was invented by Robert Dauni-Ml., And the talented Daniel Radcliffe, no matter how hard he tried, is still often called Harry Potter. But film adaptation Tomb Raider – A rare example of the same synergy. Angelina Jolie is more than Lara Croft, and Lara Croft is more than Angelina Jolie, but together they merge into a person so charismatic that she can easily captivate the viewer and take out a whole film on herself.
Although it is worth paying tribute to the director Simon West – "Tomb Raider" pleases the eye not only with tricks performed by the main star. The Cambodian Temple, the icy expanses of Iceland, which portray Siberia, or atmospheric scenery, overgrown with Liana, appear in the frame. And the plot about ancient technologies, secret societies and the posthumous secret of Lord Croft fully corresponds to the spirit of the original Tomb Raider.
2nd place – Silent Hill (2006)
The reason for such frequent failures of gaming film adaptations can be seen that they are entrusted to people who are completely indifferent to the games themselves. That actors, that the directors often do not even bother to get acquainted with the projects that they have to transfer to the screen. In the best case, everything is entrusted to go through everything and the references – so, for example, Mark Walberg entered before starring in "Max Payne". But "Silent Hill" 2006 is an exceptional case. It was created not because Konami I decided to weld on a still popular brand, but because the French director Christoph Hans fell in love with creation Team Silent and for several years the publisher begged to allow him to film the game.
Love did not prevent the director from excitingly block the plot and mythology of the original Silent Hill. The complex structure of religious allusions, esoterics and literary quotes Hans simplified the story about the power of maternal love and the horror of its absence. However, the script in the "Silent Hill" is secondary to how the film looks and sounds. There is almost nothing to complain about here, because the team did everything possible to recreate the foggy town with its nightmares. The graphics in places are outdated, but the monsters created with the help of animatronics, makeup and costumes are still terribly. And everything is accompanied by the atmospheric melodies of Akira Yamaoki, without which Silent Hill simply cannot be presented.
And yet it was the love of Hans for the franchise that saved the film from turning into a meaningless mass of references and cheap screamers, into which the sequel turned.
1st place – mortal battle (1995)
In the filmography of Paul at. WITH. Anderson is enough and disastrous paintings, like the last “monastery of evil”, and good "Deadly race" And "Through the horizon". But it is unlikely that he will ever surpass his second film-"Deadly Battle". At a time when gamers spat on psychedelic "Super brothers Mario" and laughed at the ridiculous "Street fighter" , Anderson removed the first truly worthy gaming film adaptation.
The ribbon is true to the spirit of Mortal Kombat as much as it is possible. Moreover, it was this film that set the tone of the gaming franchise – for nothing, or something, it was almost farably reproduced in the 2011 fighting wool, and in the “revenge of Scorpio”? This is a brutal permanent fantasy, in which Chinese and Japanese motifs mix with the aesthetics of American militants of the 80s. In the Deadly Battle there is an amazing choreography of the battles, a brilliant soundtrack, respect for the original source, a thick atmosphere, successful interspersed humor, as well as the infernal Carey-Hiruyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung. In short, it has everything that requires Mortal Kombat film adaptation. And even twenty -five years later this film remains a measure of quality for game adaptations.
That's more or less successful full-scale stages based on iconic games. And what films in this selection would you include? Maybe you like "Hitman" or more like Lara Croft performed by Alicia Vikander? Write in the comments!
